Houston Happenings: Shell Houston Open Weekend

Last week, my brother and I took our dad out to the Shell Houston Open on Good Friday.  The Shell Open is now always Easter Weekend and the weekend before the Masters, so it makes it a good tournament to watch.

My dad was an avid golfer and when I was little taught me the game.  I grew up playing golf and earned a college golf scholarship, so golf is something that is special to me and something my dad and I (and my brother) have always enjoyed together & had in common.  He rarely missed a tournament of mine.  My dad is in poor health now; he can’t play golf and can’t walk around the course, so we wheeled him around in a wheelchair and I think he really enjoyed it.

We were able to see Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson tee off on #1 and watch several groups finish up on the 18th green.  Overall it was a great day & one of my favorite annual Houston events.  If you are looking for a fun hole to hang out on, my favorite is the 16th green gallery.  Everyone bets/cheers on the caddies to see who makes it over the bridge first.  It’s a fun hole (maybe it’s the close proximity to the beer tent)!!
